Brazil Arbitral Institution Teams with the PCA

Brief Summary: MICHELLE GRANDO, WHITE & CASE. The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) and the arbitration and mediation center of the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce (CAM-CCBC) signed a cooperation agreement on 15 September 2014 with the purpose of strengthening ties between the two institutions.

The agreement establishes a legal framework for the PCA and CAM-CCBC to work together in promoting the use of international arbitration. Each institution will be able to hold hearings and meetings at the other’s premises and will assist with the arrangement of local support services for such events.

CAM-CCBC is one of the leading Brazilian and regional arbitral institutions, and was featured in the inaugural Survey of Latin American Arbitral Institutions issued by the Institute for Transnational Arbitration (ITA) and edited by White & Case. As profiled in the Survey, the CAM-CCBC is among the oldest and most well-established alternative dispute resolution institutes in Brazil. (The full report is available at: /latin-arbitration-law-arbitral-institutions/#toc-anchor-3).

The PCA and the CAM-CCBC have similar agreements with other major arbitral institutions around the world.
