The Compendium Of Latin American Arbitration Law tracks arbitration laws and treaties related to eighteen jurisdictions in Latin America.  The Compendium illustrates the evolution of the Latin American legal framework for arbitration, as well as more recent efforts by certain states to alter that framework with respect to investment arbitration.  The Compendium includes information relevant to both commercial arbitration, involving the resolution of disputes pursuant to arbitration clauses in contracts, and investment arbitration, involving treaties for the promotion and protection of foreign investment.  For each country, the Compendium provides (i) years of entry into force of the 1958 United Nations Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign ARbitral Awards (the "New York Convention"), the 1975 Inter-American Convention on International Commercial Arbitration (the "Panama Convention") and domestic arbitration laws; (ii) year of entry into force of the 1965 Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes Between States and Nationals of Other States (the "ICSID Convention"), and the number of bilateral investment treaties ("BITs") and Free Trade Agreements ("FTAs") currently in force for that country.  The Compendium has been edited and updated routinely over the past decade by Jonathan C. Hamilton, Editor of Latin Arbitration Law and Partner in the global law firm of White & Case LLP.
